Tournament Matchups

  1. Martin Kaymer -110 vs. Nick Watney -120 – - This is literally a toss-up online golf betting matchup.  The odds makers know it, that’s why neither Kaymer nor Watney is the big time favorite, and most of us PGA handicappers know it.  What to do in this situation?  The world’s #1 finished twenty-fourth at the WGC-Cadillac last week while Watney won the tournament.  Still, I like Kaymer in this spot because I know that, eventually, Martin’s going to start dominating again like he did towards the end of 2010 and the -10 does make a difference in a matchup between these two.

Pick: Martin Kaymer

  1. Paul Casey -160 vs. Padraig Harrington +130 – - I don’t need to think too hard about this matchup.  The odds are ridiculously in favor of Casey.  Unless there’s ample evidence that Casey would beat Harrington in this contest, I have to back Paddy.  Guess what?  No ample evidence.  Padraig produced an eighth place finish at the 2010 Transitions Championship.  Last week, he finished tenth at the WGC-Cadillac.  Those aren’t bad stats to ponder.  The fact that Harrington is offering an incredible +130 to beat Casey in this matchup is mind boggling.

Pick: Padraig Harrington

  1. Jim Furyk -115 vs. Bubba Watson -115 – - Watson’s offering terrific golf odds online in this matchup.  Although Furyk is the defending champ, Watson shot a 273 total at last year’s Transitions Championship to finish third behind Jim by only 2 strokes.  Not only that, but Bubba’s clearly been the better golfer this year with a victory at the Farmer’s Insurance and a fourth place finish at the WGC-Accenture.

Pick: Bubba Watson

  1. Jonathan Byrd -130 vs. KJ Choi +110 – - Byrd has been amazingly comfortable in this tournament in the past.  He’s scored 5 Top 15 finishes as well as recording an eighth place finish last year.  Byrd also finished tenth at the WGC-Cadillac last week.  Choi finished second to Furyk at the 2010 Transitions Championship, but goes into this off of a thirty-ninth place finish at the WGC-Cadillac last week.  Usually, I’d be all over the golfer going off at the higher odds, but I’m going to have to kiss the chalk in this matchup.

Pick: Jonathan Byrd
