2011-2012 NFL Season

2011-2012 NFL Season

Aaron Rodgers’ hand print hasn’t even faded from his Super Bowl XLV MVP Trophy, but I’m already thinking about making Super Bowl betting futures for next season.

First, let me just say that the NFL will play a season in 2011-2012. This talk of an owner’s lockout is ludicrous. There’s too much money at stake. The saber rattling will continue for a few days and then…then these rich guys will get a deal done. There’s always saber rattling in these kinds of things.

So, anybody with their mouth in a bag hyperventilating can take their mouth out and breath fresh air, or, if you live in L.A., fresh city air. Think positive, friends, this is the NFL!

Let’s take a look at 3 legitimate contenders from the AFC and 3 legitimate contenders from the NFC.

AFC

New England Patriots – - Obviously. QB Tom Brady is happy with his new contract and he just won the NFL MVP award for his awesome season. If the defense comes along, then the rest of the AFC might need to move to the NFC. The Patriots are the unquestioned future book fave for next season not because of their reputation but because they might actually have the best overall team.

New York Jets – - They’ve gone to the last two AFC Championship games and they’ve failed both times. The key for this team will be QB Mark Sanchez’s continued development as a signal-caller and RB Shonn Greene turning into a featured back.

If defensive back Kyle Wilson, who was a rookie this past season, improves, then the Jets’ D should be more formidable next season. That could be scary for the rest of the AFC.

Kansas City Chiefs – - The Chiefs are for real. They’re stable in the skill positions. QB Matt Cassel, RB Jamal Charles and WR Dwayne Bowe are all very good players. The key for the Chiefs will be their defense.

The defense needs to continue to get better and they’ll have to replace Charlie Weiss’s play calling because the former Notre Dame head coach took the job as the Florida Gators’ offensive coordinator. The most important thing for the Chiefs, though, is that their defense improves. If it does, then the Chiefs could potentially go to the Super Bowl.

NFC

Green Bay Packers – - The Packers played the entire season with a banged up D, yet they ended up winning Super Bowl XLV. Tramon Williams is a fantastic cornerback, so, their secondary isn’t just based around Charles Woodson.

Rodgers is obviously awesome and the wide receiving corp is terrific. The team can repeat since they get to beat up on Detroit and Minnesota twice next season and play overrated Chicago who is having serious QB issues.

New Orleans Saints – - Lest we forget, the Saints made a huge run later in the season and was, by many football handicappers, the en vogue pick to win Super Bowl 45. Good organizations bounce back and the Saints are a good organization. The defense has a lot of good pieces.

Everybody knows how good the offense is. Sure, Reggie Bush might be somewhere else, but as long as a man named Brees plays for this team, the offense will put up points and don’t think coach Sean Payton wasn’t embarrassed by the Seattle loss in the NFC Wild Card Round.
